Robbrecht Desmet filmed the Mont Sainte-Victoire, the mountain that forms the motif of a whole series of paintings by Paul Cézanne. Desmet selected sequences from video material and 16mm images and presents the audience with an impressive zoom-out in which our field of vision is widened slowly and almost imperceptibly from an extreme close-up. The flattening effect of the zoom-out unmistakingly reminds us of Cézanne's pictorial idiom. A well-considered and detailed meditation on the moving image, perspective, nature and culture.
